NEW BEDFORD;  Matilde (Arruda) Carvalho, 90, of New Bedford, passed away Tuesday March 20, 2018, at St Luke’s Hospital, after a period of declining health. She was the loving wife of the late Jose Carvalho.

She was born in Santa Barbara/Alem Capelas, Sao Miguel, Azores and lived in this city since 1968. She was the daughter of the late Joao and Maria (Dos Anjos) Arruda. A communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was formerly employed as a stitcher at Cliftex Corporation.

Survivors include; six sons, Joseph Carvalho and his wife Murielle, Paul A. Carvalho and his wife Mary-Jo, John A. Carvalho and his wife Joann, Michael A. Carvalho and his wife Linda all of New Bedford, Horacio Carvalho and his wife Emilia of Taunton, and Jorge A. Carvalho of Austin, Texas and one sister; Benvinda Vultao. Also survived by twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two daughters; Conceicao Carvalho and Lucia Carvalho, six brothers; Joao Arruda, Artur Arruda, Duarte Arruda, Jose Arruda, Miguel Arruda, Mariano Arruda, and one sister; Maria Oliveira.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral at 8:00 AM on Saturday March 24, 2018 at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front St, New Bedford. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
