ACUSHNET: Charles R Gelinas, 89, passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2018. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 69 years, Lorraine (Goulet) Gelinas and his eight children, Anne Lawless and her husband James of Hyannis, Charles III and his wife Paola of Hemet, California and Sovizzo, Italy, Mark and his wife Valerie of S. Dartmouth, Janet Paquette and her husband Gary of Middleboro, Peter of Eugene, Oregon, Philip and his wife Rita of Acushnet and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Daniel of New Bedford, and Kevin and his wife Sarah of Acushnet. He is also survived by his 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Charles was the son of the late Charles R Gelinas Sr. and Rose (Bergeron) Gelinas and the brother of Paul D. Gelinas. He was a 1948 St. Anthony’s High School graduate. Charlie worked and retired after 35 years from My Bread Company (Sunbeam) where he retired as a Sales Supervisor. He was also civic minded serving two terms on the Acushnet School Committee and also coached the Acushnet Little League VFW team for a number of years. Charlie had over 30 years of retirement that he filled with some of his favorite pastimes that included travel, music, golf, Boston sports, and spending time with his favorite gal.

The family wishes to thank his granddaughter Cassie Gelinas of Rochester for her loving care and kindness and Kevin and Sarah Gelinas for their constant help. According to his wishes he will be cremated. The service to celebrate his life will be held at Pacific Union Congregational Church in Westport on January 19, 2019 at 10 AM.

Arrangements are in the care of Cabral Baylies-Square Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford.

Please know that you have all been in my thoughts over the past few weeks. I think very highly of Charlie as I do the entire family. He was wonderful enough to allow me to share in his life and I am grateful for it. My family extends our deepest condolences.
