DARTMOUTH: Maria Josefina (De Sousa) Carreiro, 88, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 02, 2019 after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Eleuterio Barbosa Carreiro.

She was born in Achada, Nordeste, St. Miguel, Azores to the late Luis De Sousa Resendes and Maria de Medeiros Silva. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in South Dartmouth, and formerly a parishioner of Our Lady of the Immacuate Conception Church.
Mrs. Carreiro was formerly employed as a Fabric Turner at Textile Industry, until her retirement, also a member of the Amalgameted Union.

She is survived by a son Fred P. Carreiro and his wife Wendy of New Bedford, four daughters Maria G. Meneses, Ana M. Machado, Marie J. Bernat and her husband Thomas all of New Bedford, Elena Marshall and her husband Jason of Dartmouth. Also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Stephen Meneses.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, April 04, 2019 from 5 to 8 PM at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday at 7:45 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at St. Mary Church, 783 Dartmouth Street, South Dartmouth. Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery # 2, New Bedford.
