NEW BEDFORD; Joseph Medeiros, 72, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Hathaway Manor after a period of declining health. He was the son of the late Manuel F. Medeiros and Maria (Camara) Medeiros.

He was born in Ponta Delgada, St. Miguel, Azores, a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, formerly employed at Pauline Marie Boat Line as a Receiver, until his retirement. Joseph was a member of the Club Sports Madeirense of Fall River.

He survived by his daughter Rosemary Rush and her husband David of New Bedford; a sister Maria Augusta Carreiro and her husband Jeremias of New Bedford; one grandson Alex Cardona, one great-grandson Silas Dussault; two step-granddaughters Kristen Rushand and Courtney Tonetto. Also survived by four godchildren  Lucy Laforce, Jerry Carreiro, Sueann Costa and Kevin Carreiro, one great-niece  Mikaelah Laforce, great-nephew Nickolas Laforce, and several cousins. He was the grandfather of the late Holly Medeiros.

His visiting hours will be Thursday, June 27, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No Front Street, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday, at 9:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial  at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Cremation will follow.

I had the pleasure of working with Joe and he was quite the character, his smile and laugh is forever engraved into my heart, my heart is broken for the family and my love goes out to them, heaven gained another angel too soon, Until we meet again old man!!

I only knew Mr. Joe from DaVita dialysis. We spoke everyday we were there. A very nice and warm man. Thankful I had the opportunity to meet him. A huge loss for his family and ours at DaVita. Rest peacefully sir!

Sorry to hear of cousin Joe 's passing. Remember when he came here as a teenager , he would come to visit us on his bike. Remember the great time we had, when we went to see Elvis in Providence.. Sympathies to Maria Augusta and family.
