NEW BEDFORD: Segisfredo C. de Melo, 90, passed away at Care-One at New Bedford surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 04, 2019, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Maria O. Fatima (Oliveira) Melo.

He was born in Achada, Nordeste, St. Miguel, Azores to the late  Amancio Melo and Maria G. (Botelho) Melo. A parishioner of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, formerly employed as a Machine Operator  at Acushnet Co., until his retirement. Mr. de Melo enjoyed playing his guitar to his family and friends.

He is survived by three sons; Segisfredo Melo of Tennessee, Amancio Melo of Florida, Jorge Melo of Rochester, MA; three daughters; Filomena Melo, Fatima Oliveira both of New Bedford, Gloria Miville of Acushnet; a brother Gilberto de Melo of Florida; two sisters Gloria Costa of New Bedford, Urana  da Silva of California. Also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the wonderful Nurse Staff and Care-One at New Bedford, for their compassion and caring support during their difficult time.

Visiting hours will be Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 4 to 7 PM at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoreux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invite to attend his funeral at 9 AM with religious services at 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment at St. John Cemetery.

Papa,

You were a kind and selfless man. Always a gentleman who put the needs of others first. You brought your family here for a better life and that's exactly what you gave them.
