NEW BEDFORD: Antonio C. Brandao, 82, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019 while at home surrounded by his loving family, after a brief  battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Rosa (Cabral)  Brandao, and the son of the late Angelo C. Brandao and Irene (de Sousa) Brandao.
He was born in the small village of Sao Pedro, Nordestinho on the Island of Sao Miguel, Azores and
served in the Portuguese Army from 1957 until he immigrated to the U.S. in 1959; where in became a life long resident of the city of New Bedford and it was here that he met and married his wife Rosa and were blessed to share 58 years together. He was a very devout
catholic and communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. He had a very strong devotion to Senhor da Pedra, Sao Pedro and Divine Holy Ghost.
He was formally employed at the Bristol Clothing and Justin Clothing until his retirement, and was a member of Amalgamated Textile Union. During his early retirement years, he worked part-time as a school bus monitor in the Town of Acushnet, MA until the birth of his second great-grandchild, when he decided to stay home and raise them.
He was a member of the Senhor da Pedra Club in New Bedford over 59 years, where he held many positions and titles; such as auditor for two years; vice-president for eight years; treasure for the Club's Holy Ghost Society for several years; mordomo, together with his wife, for the Holy Ghost Feast three times; and also director for the Senhor da Pedra Filarmonica Band. He took these positions very serious and dedicated himself 100% to each and every one of them. He was known to many there as "Tio Antonio".
Antonio was a hard working, loving and very caring man; always ready to help anyone he was in need. He enjoyed tending to his garden, making his own wine and traveling to the Azores with his wife. But most of all, he enjoyed being in the company of his family and friends. Specially his two great-grandchildren whom were his pride and joy.
Survivors include his wife Rosa, his son Nelson and his companion Louisa Raposa of Fall River, two grand-daughters Ashley Brandao and her companion Brian Carvalho, Megan Brandao and her companion Nick Riquinha, two great-grandchildren Maximus and Callie Carvalho, brother Viriato Brandao and his wife Evelina, sister Luisa Pereira all of New Bedford.
He was the brother of the late Zenaide Brandao Teves and Manuel Brandao. He was also survive by two step-grandchildren Kevin and Emilly Valencourt, three god-children, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was loved by many and he will missed by all.
Visiting hours Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 5 to 8 PM at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Wednesday at 8 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
