EAST FREETOWN: Dolores (Arruda) Da Costa, 91, passed away Tuesday, December 07, 2021, at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late George Da Costa, the love of her life, with whom she had shared 66 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Freitas) Arruda, she resided in East Freetown for the past 47 years. She graduated from New Bedford High School and was a communicant of St. Gabriel The Archangel Parish.
Dolores was an avid reader and would read just about anything. She also loved history, crossword puzzles, jumbles, casino trips, anything with butterflies, and listening to her late husband's music. Most of all, she loved the company of friends and family, especially visits from her grandchildren.
Dolores is survived by her twin daughters, Debra Deree and her husband Dennis of Acushnet and Kathleen Bennett and her husband Paul of New Bedford, her four grandchildren, Rebecca Gracie and her husband Adam of New Bedford, Katelyn Whitehead and her husband Thomas of Acushnet, Nathan Deree and his wife Karissa of Acushnet, and Aimee Duquette and her husband Normand of Seekonk, her seven "greats," as she called them, Aiden, Quinn, Morgan, Ethan, Landon, Amelia, and Austin, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings Sarah Resendez, Gloria Arruda, Eva Bizarro, Manuel Arruda, John Arruda, Irene Bonneau, Joseph Arruda, Melissa Davignon, and Daniel Arruda. The family would like to express their gratitude to Southcoast Hospice (Lorrie, Laura, Sarah, and Ashley) for their support and compassion throughout this difficult time.
Her visiting hours will be Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 3 to 5 PM at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Monday at 10 AM in St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
