FAIRHAVEN; Born in Feteira Grande, Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Acores, daughter of the late Manuel Rocha and Olivia (Resendes) Cabral. Dot immigrated to New Bedford in 1954 with her father and 5 siblings to join their mother. She was a 1966 graduate of New Bedford High School and attended Weaver Airline School, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was employed by Frem’s Jewelry and Jacques Insurance Agency before working for TAP the Airline of Portugal in Boston for 12 years, where she resided before settling back in New Bedford to raise her family. She worked part time at Harry the Hatter, Cabral-Baylies Square, and Cabral-Lamoureux Funeral Homes.
Dot enjoyed watching her athletic daughters play basketball, volleyball, and was a true “Softball Mom” for many years. She cherished the time with her girls growing up and was a devoted Vavo’ to her four adored grandchildren who always looked forward to her kale soup and rice pudding. Her friendly, humbling and caring ways will be deeply missed by all of us, especially her rice pudding!!!
Survivors include: her husband Lawrence (Larry) Marder of Fairhaven; four daughters, Sarah A. Gomes and husband Jason of Acushnet, Andrea L. Marder of Fairhaven, Stephanie R. Monteiro and husband Kevin of New Bedford, Jennifer M. Marder and companion Derek Stoffel of Mt. Juliet, TN; one brother Oliver M. Cabral and his wife Olga of New Bedford, a sister Maria Olivia Galego and husband Jose of Ohio, and her sister-in-law Mary Cabral of West Yarmouth, four cherished and beloved grandchildren, Emma Olivia Gomes, Dylan Jonathan Gomes, Stella Olivia Stoffel and Ryder Frederick Stoffel; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, god-children, and many cousins. She was the sister of the late Adalino Cabral and Jeremias Cabral.
We would like to thank all the medical staff at Alden Court Nursing Home in Fairhaven for all their dedication and hard work they gave Dottie in making her remaining time on this earth the best it could be, our family is truly grateful.
