FAIRHAVEN: Francisco A. Resendes, 90, of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Royal of Fairhaven Nursing Center, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of 63 years to Filomena I. (de Aguiar) Resendes.
He was born in Feteira Grande, Nordeste, St. Miguel, Azores to the late Manuel A. and Eulalia (Pimentel) Resendes. A parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church, and formerly employed as a Rubber Assembler at Acushnet Company, until his retirement.
He leaves behind his wife, Filomena Aguiar Resendes, of Fairhaven, and 5 children: Francisco M. Resendes and wife Fernanda Resendes of Acushnet; António Dinis Resendes and wife Celestina Resendes of Acushnet; Ibéria “Betty” Fagundes and husband Luis Fagundes of Freetown; Teresa Resendes Tavares and significant-other Taylor Baldwin of Marion; and José Octávio Resendes of New Bedford. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Ryan Resendes, Nicole Souza, Philip Fagundes, Kaitlyn Fagundes, Meagan Resendes, Eric Tavares, Alex Tavares, and one great-grandchild, Molly Resendes. He leaves behind two sisters, Belmira Pimentel of New Bedford, and Margarida Amaral of Algarvia, Nordeste, S. Miguel, and one brother, Larry Resendes of New Bedford, and also various nieces and nephews. He was the brother to Maria Duarte, Manuel Resendes, João Resendes, Dionísio Resendes, José Resendes and Águeda Medeiros, all deceased.
He worked in various provinces in Canada, before immigrating with his family to New Bedford in 1969, having worked in some textile factories.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, December 15 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureaux Funeral Home, 512 North Front Street, New Bedford. Please be advised that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there are strict guidelines that must be adhered to for the safety of everyone. You MUST wear a face-covering to be allowed to the services. Please practice social distancing and avoid any close contact. Guests will be permitted to pay their respects and depart to allow the next guests to enter. Capacity at the funeral home will be limited so there could be wait times outside the funeral home.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass on Wednesday at 10 AM in Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Due to the current restriction, only 100 people are allowed in church at one time. Everyone must wear a face-covering. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
