Acushnet-Hilda Gouveia-Alves, born January 26, 1923, passed away peacefully at the age of 99. She was surrounded by her loving family at home in Acushnet, MA on October 8, 2022. She was the beloved wife of John F. Alves, Jr. to whom she was married to for 73 years.
She is survived by her brother Americo Gonsalves of New Bedford. Six children; Joan Boucher and husband Paul Boucher of Acushnet, Louise Bertoldo of Acushnet, Dr Gary Alves and wife Vidalia Alves of Dighton, Judy Gonsalves of Lakeville, Deborah West and husband Glen West of New Bedford, Leonard Alves and fiancé Carol Wood of Westport. She has 10 grandchildren: Dr. Michael Boucher, Christopher Boucher, Greg Bertoldo, Karen Davignon, Garrett Alves, Keaneau Alves, Kimberly Gonsalves, Lisa Bell, Jay West, Ryan West, Alyssa Dube and pre-deceased by Taylor Leigh Alves. She also has 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
A devoted a wife and mother, she was employed for many years at EPEC Industries in New Bedford, retiring at the age of 65. She loved her ‘Red Sox’s” as well as the “Pats” and Tom Brady. She also loved watching her two grandchildren Alyssa and Keaneau play soccer, shaking her cow bell any chance she could.
She will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday October 17th, from 6 to 8pm at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 North Front Street, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Her funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 18, at 9am in Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
