NEW BEDFORD: Joan V. Kock, 88, a lifetime resident of New Bedford, passed away on 2/25/22 surrounded by her family, offering her love and prayers, words of gratitude, comfort and peace. Joan was grateful for their steadfast caring presence. Joan was served by family and friends, and medical and pastoral professionals from the Southcoast VNA Hospice throughout her illness.
Joan was born to the late Marcel P. Eltis and Antonina (Rog) Eltis on May 26, 1933 in New Bedford, MA. The oldest of two children, her brother was the late Marcel P. Eltis, Jr.
Joan was married to the late John Kock, a Navy Veteran, in New Bedford. She attended New Bedford High School and Kinyon-Campbell College in New Bedford earning an Associate degree in Secretarial Science.
Joan was employed as a professional secretary for a private lawyer in New Bedford. Joan worked as a personnel director for 30 years at Woolworths two locations, in New Bedford and at the
Dartmouth Mall. Joan was deemed in her employment as personable, determined, and dedicated. In addition, Joan was a Sales Associate at Patnaude’s Aquarium & Pet Supply for 20 years. She was indefatigable and made a lasting impression with everyone she encountered.
Joan had a strong will and deep faith. Her greatest blessings were time to spend with her family, plant her beautiful flower garden, and her profound knowledge and love for all animals, especially her beloved dog, Penney.
Joan was proud and charmed by each of her children, not just for their accomplishments, but for who they had become and the lives they had built. Her family and friends are
blessed by her memory, as they were by her presence, positive spirit and guiding light.
Joan leaves her daughter, Susan Jorge, and her son-in-law Steven Jorge of New Bedford; three grandchildren, Amanda Gonneville and her spouse Sara Gonneville, Jennifer Jorge and her fiancee Aaron Motta, and Jessica Jorge and her companion John Silvia; and one great grandson, Koston Gonneville. She was predeceased by her daughter, Karen Ann Kock.

Her cremains burial, will be held privately.
