Maria A. (Vieira) Mota

 FAIRHAVEN: Maria dos Anjos (Vieira) Mota, 98, beloved mother and vavó, passed away on August 4, 2021 at Alden Court Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility after several years of declining health. She was born October 4, 1922 in Agua de Pau Sao Miguel, Açores.

Maria was the wife of the late João B. Mota with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. In 1969 she and her husband, along with their three young children immigrated to the United States and settled in New Bedford, where she lived all her life.

Maria worked in the textile industry and was a communicant of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church. She adored her children and grandchildren. She will always be remembered as the most loving wife, mother and vavó, who will be missed beyond words could ever imagine.

Maria was predeceased by her parents, Manuel Vieira Tavares and Maria Madalena Vieira, her sister Amélia Adriano, and brothers Elias, Manuel, and Tobias Vieira. 

She is survived by her three children, Duarte Mota and his wife, Maria, Carlos Mota and his wife Lexina, and Madalena Albano and her husband Carlos all of New Bedford. Her dear grandchildren Matthew Mota, Ashley Albano, Katelyn Mota, Mason Mota, Brendan Mota, Kyle Albano, and Michelle Mota. Her great-grandchildren Sienna, Francesca, and Filipa and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Saturday morning, August 07, 2021 from 8 to 9:15 AM at the Cabral Baylies Square Funeral Home, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford, followed by her funeral mass at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Interment at St. John Cemetery.
