NEW BEDFORD: Maria Cabral (de Medeiros) Rebelo, 91, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Joao de Sousa Rebelo.
She was born in Feteira Grande, Nordeste, St. Miguel, Azores to the late Manuel C. de Medeiros and Maria (da Costa) de Medeiros. Formerly employed as a Stitcher at Riverside MFG. until her retirement, she was a member of the Amalgamate Union.
She is survived by three sons; John M. Rebelo, Luis A. Rebelo and his partner Sherry Bumpus, Jose E. Rebelo and his wife Laurinda all of New Bedford; a daughter Maria R. Lindo and her husband Antonio of New Bedford; two brothers; Manuel Medeiros, Carlos Medeiros both from Canada. Also survived six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday, December 29, 2020 from 5 to 7 PM at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford. Please be advised due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there are strict guidelines that must be adhered to for the safety of everyone. You MUST wear a face-covering to be allowed to the services. Please practice social distancing and avoid any close contact. Guests will be permitted to pay their respects to the family and depart to allow the next guests to enter. Capacity at the funeral home will be limited so there could be wait times outside the funeral home.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Wednesday, December 30, at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Due to the current restrictions, only 100 people are allowed in church at one time. Everyone must wear a face-covering. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
