NEW BEDFORD: Maria L. (de Medeiros) de Frias, 92, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Oaks Nursing Center, after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Carlos B. de Frias.
She was born in Achadinha, St. Miguel, Azores to the late Jacinto Pacheco de Amaral and Maria da Gloria (de Medeiros) Amaral. Maria was a devoted mother and grandmother. There is nothing more in this world that could bring a smile to her face and joy to her heart than to be surrounded by her loving grandchildren.
A warm and grateful thank you to the entire staff at the Oaks Nursing Facility who played an integrity part in mom's journey, your caring and devotion to those in need will forever be remembered.
She is survived by a son John B. de Frias and his wife Wendy of New Bedford, three daughters Gina Cabral and her husband John of Fairhaven, Maria Filomena Otto and her husband Ferlin of Florida, Marianne Barboza and her husband Wendal of New Bedford, two sisters Conceicao Pacheco of Brazil, Margarida De Frias, of Canada, eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Carlos B. de Frias Jr.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, December 30, 2020 from 5 to 7 PM at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No Front Street, New Bedford. Please be advised due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there are strict guidelines that must be adhered to for the safety of everyone. You MUST wear a face-covering to be allowed to the services. Please practice social distancing and avoid any close contact. Guests will be permitted to pay their respects and depart to the family and depart to allow the next guests to enter .Capacity at the funeral home will be limited so there could be wait times outside the funeral home.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Thursday, December 31, at 8:45 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Due to the current restrictions, only 100 people are allowed in church at one time. Everyone must WEAR a face-covering. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
