Maria Austelia (Pacheco) Borges

FAIRHAVEN: Maria Austelia (Pacheco) Borges, 95, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Alden Court Nursing Home, after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Antonio Medeiros Borges.

She was born in Sao Pedro Nordestinho, Nordeste, St. Miguel, Azores to the late Jacinto Inacio Mendoca and Rosa Georgina Borges. A parishioner of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, and she was very devoted to her parish. Formerly employed as a Presser at various Textile Companies, until her retirement.

She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, knitting beautiful clothes for all the family or anyone that asked her, and the most of her time was spending time with all her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves behind five sons; Antonio Jose Borges and his wife Nazare of Bradford, Ma, Dinis Borges and his wife Jesuita of Mississauga, Ontario, Luis Borges and his wife Manuela of St. Miguel, Norberto Borges and his wife Bernardete of Cambridge, Ontario, Jorge Borges of New Bedford, four daughters; Lucilia Amaral and her husband Rogerio of Acushnet, Maria dos Santos Ramos of Dracut, Ma, Normenia Correia and her husband Jose Manuel of Dracut, Ma, Leonor Iamele and her husband John of Acushnet. Also she survived by twenty one grandchildren, twenty nine great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the sister of the late Jose Inacio Mendonca, grandmother of the late Tanya and Jessica Borges.

The family would like to thank all the medical staff at Alden Court Nursing Home in Fairhaven for all their dedication and hard work they gave to our mother.

Her visiting hours will be Monday, April 24, 2023, from 5 to 7 PM at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass on Tuesday at 10 AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
