Obituary

NEW BEDFORD: Maria Da Graça Farias, 91, wife of the late Simão Farias passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from declining health. Maria was born in Porto Formoso, São Miguel Azores, to the late José Da Costa Botelho Gonçalves and Virginia Gonçalves. In the early 1970s, Maria emigrated to the USA with her family.

Maria always enjoyed being in the company of her family and especially cooking for the family and friends. She also loved taking care of her flowers and plants and always looked forward to springtime.  She also enjoyed reading the newspaper and was always abreast with the latest news.

She is survived by her daughters, Diamantina and her husband, Jose Carvalho; Eduarda and her husband, Pedro Ferreira; Maria Grace and her husband, Eugene Gonçalves; Ana and her husband, Jonathan Travers; and sons, Carlos, and his wife, Conceição; and Arthur.

She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Susan, Monica, Paula, Sandra, Carlos, Peter, and George. She will also be missed by her loving great-grandchildren, Juliet, Simon, Christopher, Daxton, and Emerson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Alden Court Nursing Home who cared for her and the ER and ICU medical team at St. Luke’s Hospital.

"She will now join her late son, Artur, in heaven."
