PROVIDENCE: Maria Zelia Felix Giesta, 91 of New Bedford, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, after a period of declining health. She was the loving wife of the late Januario Pereira Da Costa
She was born in Fajã de Baixo, São Miguel, Azores, daughter of the late José Félix and Georgina do Rego (Pontes) Giesta. Since 1978 Zelia lived in New Bedford, when she emigrated with her three sons. Zelia was a devout communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was a devoted mother to her boys and grandmother to her grandson.
Survivors include her three sons Rogério F. da Costa and his wife Adilia of São Miguel, Azores. Carlos E. da Costa and his wife Jennifer of Acushnet, Massachusetts, and Sergio da Costa and his wife Teresa of Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by her beloved grandson, Leonardo and many nieces and nephews. She is the sister of the late José F. Giesta and Berta Maria Carvalho.
Her visiting hours will be Wednesday morning, December 15, 2021, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front St., New Bedford, followed by her funeral mass at 11:30AM at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.
