Mary (Carvalho) Almeida

NEW BEDFORD- Mary Carvalho Almeida, born July 14, 1921, passed away peacefully at the

age of 101 on October 18, 2022. She was the beloved wife of Edward F. Almeida to whom she

was married to for 61 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Knowles and her companion Kenneth Souza. Two

grandchildren: Dr. Ryan M. Knowles and his wife Dr. Katie Knowles of New Bedford, Alissa

Shearstone and her husband Bill Shearstone of Raynham. She has four loving great

grandchildren: Jack Knowles, Madeline Knowles, Lindsey Shearstone and Julia Shearstone.

Mary worked hard as a union stitcher until her retirement. She was an enthusiastic shopper and

enjoyed out of town shopping road trips with her husband.

Above all, Mary was extremely devoted to and proud of her family. She was a loving wife,

mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always ready to babysit her great

grandchildren who brought her so much joy. She was also known to cook and bundle up meals

to go for her grandchildren after a long day’s work. Mary was always willing to help others and

just had a good heart. She will be deeply missed.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to those who lovingly cared for her at Sacred

Heart Home and to the Fairhaven Community Nurses who provided hospice care.

Her funeral is private from the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home 512 North

Front Street, New Bedford on October 24, 2022.
